Our in house research team carried out a test to see if the LED GROWN propagation light would have better results than that of the fluorescent propagation light. We used the market leading t8 fluorescent propagation lamp to find out.

To carry out testing on the LEDGROWN propagation light to see how it compares to the T8 Florescent Propagation light.
Equipment required and used

Test set up,
- Water mother plant two days before taking cuttings,
- Set up the propagation tents, wipe down and disinfect tent to prevent any pathogens contacting the cuttings.
- Set up the budget propagation units, wipe down and disinfect propagators to prevent any pathogens contacting the cuttings
- Using the syringe add 4ml of Shogun Start and 5ml of Shogun Katana Roots per liter of water, add to the mixing tray with 1 liter of water.
- Soak Jiffy plugs in fertilized water solution, until jiffy plugs expand/ swell.
- Plug Jiffy’s in to respective jiffy trays squeezing out excess moisture as you do so.
- Place jiffy trays in propagators.
- Using the scalpel as a measure take cuttings from the mother plant, (length of scalpel approximately 10CM)
- Decant CloneX into suitable container ( egg cups are great for this), once you have prepared the cutting, dip into decanted clonex,
- Once the cut root zone has been dipped insert into pre fertilized jiffy plugs,
- Insert hygrometers into the propagators, replace Propagator lids and place into propagation tents,
- Insert Propagation light,
We then began to observe the cuttings daily for the next two weeks,
The results
LED GROWN Propagation light – roots were established within 5 days, with fierce root growth in 7 and ready for transplanting – 12 out of 12 cuttings rooted 100% success rate
2 Tube Propagation Light – fluorescent – roots were established in 10 days, with fierce root growth in 13 days and ready for transplanting – 9 out of 12 cuttings rooted, 75% success rate.
The costs, once your over the initial investment stage, your set up should last for a good number of years with minimal reinvestment required, as you will only need to purchase the perishable and used items such as Nutrients, Jiffy plugs, scalpels etc.
With energy prices still due to sky rocket we were curious as to how much it would cost to run each fitting over two weeks on an 18/6 light cycle, basing the energy rate @ £0.43p per kwh.
